How does the Dried Blood Spot (DBS) test work?

The Dried Blood Spot (DBS) tests offered by include HbA1c (average blood glucose over the past 2-3 months), blood lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides), and sometimes Serum Creatinine (kidney function) based on your medications.

This test is different from a blood draw from the lab. No need to leave your home, fast, or get your arm poked!

You start with a quick finger poke using a lancing device, similar to the device you may use for checking your blood glucose at home, and place several blood drops on a piece of sterile cardstock.

Once you complete the card/s, you will mail it back in the prepaid envelope and receive your results right in your account. All from the comfort of your home!

For your reference here is a 2-minute video on how to correctly complete the test.
