What does A1c mean?

Your A1c, also known as your hemoglobin A1C or HbA1c, is your average blood glucose over the past two to three months. The results help you and your diabetes care team learn more about how well your treatment plan (medications and daily lifestyle habits) is working for you.

For more information on A1c, we welcome you to ask your Care Specialist or your doctor. You can also visit https://www.diabetes.org/diabetes/a1c-test-meaning/a1c-and-eag for some more general information about A1c values.

  • Hi there, Phillip!

The word A1c is actually not an acronym. The full version of the word is HbA1c and stands for "Glycated Hemoglobin." The test measures an individual's average blood glucose control over a 2-3 month period. Do you have any additional questions at this time?
